Connelly 1 (1).jpg

I'm Kathleen Connelly, an instructor and visiting scholar at the Chair of Philosophy and Political Theory at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. In June 2024 I received my dissertation in Philosophy and Science Studies from the University of California San Diego with the defense of my dissertation, Blame, Respect, and a Novel Theory of Patronizing.

My research interests are in ethics and moral responsibility. In particular, I'm interested in questions about moral responsibility motivated by engagement with empirical psychology, history of medicine, and disability theory. My developing research incorporates these interests into an exploration of the relationship between blame and respect. These interests have also manifested in work on whether we can be accountable for actions motivated by cognitive processes of which we’re not conscious.

When I'm not doing moral responsibility research, I'm interested in aesthetics and feminist philosophy, by way of philosophical hobbies. Outside of teaching and research, I am proud to have served a term as the co-director of the Summer Program for the Advancement of Women in Philosophy at UC San Diego and to have participated in a number of other programs aimed at making academic philosophy more diverse and inclusive.
